iEmpty allows you to add "empty spaces" to your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen ("springboard"), by adding on it special Safari bookmarks (with an icon reproducing your home screen background, and without any text).
...So you can put your app icons where you want on your home screen, leaving "blank spaces" between them... wihtout the need to jailbreak your iPhone ! (for jailbroken devices, you can use "iBlank" or "GridLock" apps). Indeed, Apple doesn't allows this natively on iOS...
You just have to go to this page (from an iDevice) and choose the icon type that best fit your needs. Then follow the instructions given on each page.
You will finish to be on a "Add Icon" page showing the icon you are about to add. This is the page you have to bookmark on your home screen to add an empty space on it !
For further details and help about the steps to perform, please read the contextual help sections integrated at the bottom of each page.
Long tap on an icon on your springboard, like you usually do to move the applications.
You will see app icons "shaking" with a little cross on the top left corner. You will also see only the cross with an icon reproducing your background : this is your empty space !
You can move it or delete it like any other app icon !
Each empty space added is in fact a link to the page allowing you to add this empty space !
So you just need to tap on an existing empty space on your home screen to easily add a new empty space of the same type !
If you already added empty spaces using the "CUSTOM mode" and a custom home screen image, perhaps you would like to change your home screen background...
In this case your icons already added will not match your new home screen anymore !
Don't panick !
Once you've upload your new home screen to iEmpty (in order to generate your new 'invisible' custom icons), just tap on each 'old' icon already added : you will display the "Add Icon" page displaying the new icon generated for your new home screen background.
Wait the complete page loading and quit Safari : your icon should have been updated on your home screen !
1. When trying to bookmark the page, the 'Add' button is disabled.
» Cancel the operation and try again.
2. When trying to bookmark the page, the icon to add is not the expected one (thumbnail of the page instead of your custom icon)
» Cancel the operation and try again. And wait that the "Add Icon" page is completely loaded before trying to add the bookmark.
In "TRANSPARENT mode", iEmpty adds a transparent icon on your home screen.
However, Safari modifies the icon transparency into black...
Consequently this mode will be usefull only if you have a black screen background.
If you have a device with at least iOS4 and a background image as a wallpaper on your home screen, please use the "CUSTOM mode" instead !
As you just see, the "TRANSPARENT mode" seems "useless" if you have a device with iOS4 or greater and a custom home screen... So why keeping it ?!?
1. Because this was the original mode of iEmpty. This is the reason why I made this website... So it is sentimental !! ;-)
2. Because this mode always work for old devices with iOS3... OK, they are few, so that's not a very good reason to keep it !
3. Because perhaps one day (we could dream...), Apple will allow transparency on Safari bookmarks icons added to the home screen. This day, the "TRANSPARENT mode" will be the only one to keep !
